Mindful Exercise

The New York Times reports at the end of the year that incorporating mindfulness into your workout boosts your enjoyment of the workout and may even boost its effectiveness. Instructors with devoted students explain how they pause throughout tough sequences to ask their students to check in with their breath, to see how the movement actually makes them feel, to leave the world at the door for just this one hour… sound like any place you’ve been lately?

Here at Six Degrees, everything we do can be seen as organized around two ideas: 1) We are all connected. 2) Movement is for everybody and every body. Taking the time to remember how it feels to be part of a community, how it feels to know that self-care supports more than just ourselves, how it feels to be curious rather than critical about our bodies and their abilities, and how it feels to simply step into an accepting, welcoming space—it does a body good. We’ll see you in the studio!
