Dawn brought a new level of energy and holistic awareness to the studio when she joined the team last year. She launched our H.I.I.T program and leads our monthly Chakra Clearing classes.
Here are 5 facts about Dawn:
1. Dawn believes that movement and meditation can heal the body and is why she first became certified to teach Nia Dance & Chakra Tuning. Chakras are energy centers of the body that help us thrive in life. Having held a desk job for many years, turning age 40 and being 20 pounds overweight, she found Nia Dance & Tabata was a way for her body to release weight. she is also certified to teach Barre, Foam Roller Pilates, Tabata & Strength and she finds that the diversity of these modalities help to keep her healthy in mind, body and spirit.
2. Dawn maintains a healthy life style by moving her body and meditating every day. Whether it be a mini Tabata or listening to music, she believes that taking mini 10 minute movement and meditation breaks throughout the day really helps her maintain her stamina & peace of mind. She uses YouTube and Darebee to get 10 min workout ideas. She sets a timer on her phone to remind her to take her mini movement breaks throughout the day. She also follows a ketogenic diet which consists of healthy proteins, fats and vegetables. She finds that minimizing inflammatory foods such as: gluten, processed foods, sugar and alcohol has helped her minimize allergies, sleep better & maintain her weight. Her favorite cookbook is the “30 Day Ketogenic Cleanse.”
3. Dawn believes the best way to combat stress is to literally step away from it. Walk away from the thing that is causing you stress knowing that you’ll come back to it later. Take a walk or listen to a Chakra clearing video, or meditation, reset and come back to your problem with a new & clear perspective.
4. Dawn believes in balance and even though she makes it a point to move her body every day and follow an anti-inflammatory diet, she does not restrict herself and will enjoy craft cocktails, a decadent dessert, or homemade bread! She learned in her chakra clearing training that opening the sacral chakra means that we has humans must enjoy all the good that life has to offer, “pura vida,” and savor a treat as a celebration of life. In her Nia training she was taught to tune in to her body’s wisdom and is practicing listening to what her body may be seeking. Somedays maybe it’s less of an intense work out and more restoration. Maybe it’s a massage, acupuncture or another healing modality. As the body exerts & recovers.
5. Hobbies: Dawn is a member of #surfersforstrays pet rescue and just returned from a two week long rescue mission and Troncones Mexico where she was able to rehab homeless/injured animals and place them in to good homes with the team at surfers for strays. She also works with bull terrier rescues.
