AN 8TH GRADER’S TESTIMONY TO FAITHFUL SHEPHERD

January 2018

Good morning. My name is Olivia Johanns. I am a parishioner at St. Peter and an eighth grade student at our parish school, Faithful Shepherd Catholic School.

I have had many great experiences over the years at Faithful Shepherd. As a four year old, I watched my older brothers come home from school telling me about their day, and I couldn’t wait to have the same experiences they did. Now, as an eighth grader, I can say that going to Faithful Shepherd was one of the best things that ever happened to me. At Faithful Shepherd, you will be challenged academically, you will grow deeper in your faith with God, you will learn many things and you will make many friends. The students at Faithful Shepherd have become family to me, and it’s going to be hard leaving a place that I call my second home.

At Faithful Shepherd they teach you not only how to become a better student but also a better person. The learning environment is very calm and comfortable, so if you are stuck on a question, you feel comfortable going to the teachers for answers. One of the more fascinating programs that we participate in at Faithful Shepherd is called Junior Achievement. The Junior Achievement program teaches kids how to become successful young adults by helping them understand different businesses and how they function within a community. In religion class, we learn the difference between right and wrong through stories from the Bible, and we learn how to turn our back on sin and be more like Jesus.

Most importantly, Faithful Shepherd is a community: a strong and loving community bound together by faith with the goal of helping all students reach their full potential. At Faithful Shepherd, we have a buddy program where older and younger students come together to have fun and to learn. This year my kindergarten buddy has been very energetic and interesting. Together, we have fun reading books, playing games and coloring. This is a great way for students to get to know the other grades and a great way for eighth graders to show off their leadership skills.

This week, we join over 7,000 Catholic schools across the country in the celebration of Catholic Schools Week. On behalf of the Faithful Shepherd students here today, and our entire school, I wish to thank the community of St. Peter for building Faithful Shepherd and for your continued support of our school.

Thank you.
